The bleachers served as an anchoring point for the side streamers and a flat place for the murals.
Many kits were used for this one, except for the stone castle.
The theme name was “Knights in White Satin”, a popular song by the Moody Blues.
The Oriental Theme
The walk over the water and fountain nearby
Pink blossomed trees in the background – very time consuming little flowers attached
The Pagoda house for the punch area
The banquet area and decorations – the committee chose the meal
The Roman Theme
Once again the servers costumes added the extra flavor for the decorations.
The Disney Theme
The characters were drawn, blown up and hand painted. They were also double sided.
Very bright and colorful
It took a little work to get the committee to go for this theme as they always want to have romantic theme,
but then what do you get for decorations to fill a whole gym.
We got the most compliments on this theme and the elementary kids
just loved it when they took their yearly walk through on Friday.
Now, things have changed. No more streamers. No ceiling and the walls are black plastic sheets or curtains now. No keepsakes or costumed servers – they just wear black bottoms and white tops. Only a third of gym is used due to the small class sizes. Changes of the time.
Just a side note: When I started teaching in Lidgerwood, my salary was $5,700 plus $300 for coaching. My extra curricular contract for Prom was $25. Since the Prom was at the end of year, a separate check was written out to me then and they took out the deductions and I got $19. : )
But that was OK with me because I didn’t take the job for the money, I took it for the opportunity to work and get to know my students out side of the classroom. We all had a great time and a lot of fun working together.
I have many fond memories. Hats off to my students.
